Guides that do not try to sell you anything. Each one answers a question families ask before they start comparing products, what a thing costs, what insurance pays for, what to change in the house, what helps at a particular stage.

The guides

Looking for programs rather than products?

Our resources section covers the public programs: Area Agencies on Aging, caregiver support and respite, meal programs, legal help and the ombudsman, and nursing home preadmission screening.

Looking for a specific product?

Product reviews are organized by the problem being solved rather than by brand. Start from shop by need, or go straight to mobility aids, bathroom safety, furniture and comfort, or daily living aids.

How we write these

We state what is covered by a rule and what is left to local discretion, we name the phone number or agency to call rather than telling you to “contact your provider”, and we say when something is outside what a product can fix. Where a guide touches on health, it describes how programs and equipment work, it does not give medical advice, and it is not a substitute for talking to a clinician. See how we research and review.
